Explore Our Materials

Granite Countertops

  • Beautifully unique – available in a wide variety of colors and patterns.
  • A hard material, rated 6 to 7 on the Moh’s scale of hardness, and is generally more scratch resistant and heat resistant than other softer stones such as soapstone or marble.
  • Veining and other natural features will vary among each granite slab.
  • Granite is an excellent choice for indoor spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms, and fireplace surrounds.
  • Granite works well in outdoor applications, such as outdoor kitchens.
  • Certain granite options may have high porosity and sealing is recommended to guard against staining.  When properly treated, granite is generally stain resistant.

Marble Countertops

  • Marble is a timeless, classic choice for natural stone countertops.
  • Marble generally has more subtle veining than many granite options.
  • Compared to granite, marble is a softer stone, and tends to scratch and etch more easily.
  • With time and use, marble will show patina and diminish in luster.  To some, the patina is viewed as adding beauty and character.

Quartz Countertops

  • A wide variety of beautiful quartz colors and designs are available from many different manufacturers.  Many options are designed to mimic natural stone.
  • Aesthetically, quartz countertops may offer a more crisp, contemporary appearance than natural stone.
  • Quartz countertops are man-made by combining approximately 93% natural quartz and minerals with approximately 7% resins and pigments.
  • Quartz is an excellent option for those seeking consistency.  Because quartz slabs are the result of an engineered process, the slabs will not vary in color and veining, as compared to natural stone.
  • Quartz is a durable surface, and is generally very resistant to scratching, etching and staining.
  • We recommend that customers review the specific usage and care recommendations of each manufacturer.

Quartzite Countertops

  • Quartzite is entirely natural, and should not be confused with engineered quartz.
  • Similar to granite, quartzite is a hard material and is generally resistant to scratches and heat.
  • Natural veining in quartzite tends to be more subtle, sometimes resembling marble.
  • Quartzite material is often more expensive than other natural stone options.
  • Fabrication of quartzite may be more complex.

Soapstone Countertops

  • Soapstone is natural stone, with each slab being truly unique.
  • Soapstone is dense, but soft.  It is rated from 1 to 4 on the Moh’s scale.  Soapstone generally resists staining and damage from acids.  Because soapstone is soft, it is more susceptible to scratches and dents.
  • Applying mineral oil to soapstone may help to mask scratches and restore luster.
  • Soapstone has low porosity, and is thus less likely to absorb liquids or bacteria.

Solid Surface Countertops

  • Solid surface countertops are generally non-porous, and thus resist bacteria and promote a sanitary area.
  • The surface is fairly soft, and may scratch easily.  Solid surface countertops can be buffed and/or resurfaced by a professional.
  • Solid surface countertops are homogenous from top to bottom, and are not layered like certain laminate products.
  • We recommend that customers review the specific usage and care recommendations of the solid surface manufacturer.
